Hardev Singh (66), a resident of Kharar, suffered serious injuries after he fell into a 10-foot-deep pit dug up at Mundi Kharar by L&T Company for the ongoing work to construct Kharar-Mohali flyover.

The police have registered a case under Sections 283, 337 and 338 of the IPC against unknown officials and employees of L&T Company that has been undertaking the work of flyover construction. They have been booked on the charge of causing hurt by act endangering life and obstruction in public way.

Hardev Singh retired as a superintendent in the Health Department on September 17, 2017. He was returning home when he fell into the pit. His cries, however, remained unheard. Later, he informed his son about the incident on his mobile phone. His son came there and pulled him out of the pit. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, from where he was referred to the PGI in Chandigarh.

He alleged that the accident took place due to the negligence of officials and employees of the company as no notice board was put up near the pit. He made a complaint about this to the National Highways Authority of India and the police. He also met senior officials of the police, following which an FIR has been registered.
