Chandigarh, December 1 

England defeated Sri Lanka 66-21 in the opening match of the International Kabbadi Tournament, started at Guru Nanak Stadium, Sultanpur Lodhi, today. 

In the second match of the day, Canada humbled down Kenya 57-30, while United States of America faced a tough resistance before logging a 48-42 win over New Zealand. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi along with MLAs Navtej Singh Cheema and Rana Gurjeet Singh. 

Sodhi said that around 150 players from eight different countries are participating in this event, organised to mark the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev. The minister further said that winning team would be awarded with Rs 25 lakh, while the runners-up will take home Rs 15 lakh. The second runners-up will purse Rs 10 lakh. —TNS
