Eminent farm scientist Prof AS Ahluwalia today underlined the importance of application of algal bio-fertilisers and microbes and how these would meet the needs of sustainable agriculture with the three main objectives of healthy environment, economic benefit and socio-economic equity.
He was delivering an expert talk on ‘Potential of Microbial Photoautotrophs’ organised by the Department of Life Sciences of Rayat Bahra University. More than 250 students of life sciences and agriculture attended the talk.
Prof Ahluwalia, former chairman of the Department of Botany, PU, emphasised that bio-fertilisers were very important if they were to ensure a healthy future for the coming generations.
Dr Simerjit Kaur, Head of the Department of Life Sciences, dwelt on how modern agricultural practices were heavily dependent on fertilisers to boost agriculture productivity. — OC
