Panchkula, April 20

The Kalka police claimed to have arrested an accused in a hit-and-run case for killing a woman due to rash driving.

The accused has been identified as Pitamber, alias, Shillu, a native of Narol village of Himachal Pradesh. He is presently residing in Mauli Jagran complex, Chandigarh.

Lakshmi Chand, a resident of Bheema Devi colony in Pinjore, in his complaint to the police said, he along with his brother Suresh Kumar, sister-in-law Meena and nephew Jai were going to pay obeisance at Mata Kali Devi temple at Kalka.

He said his brother and his family were going on the motorcycle, while he was following them on his own bike.

He said when they reached near the Government College, Kalka, a rashly-driven auto-rickshaw hit his brother’s motorcycle after which they fell down, while the three-wheeler also turned turtle.

Meanwhile, a four-wheeler (load carrier) coming from behind hit Meena, causing serious injuries, and fled from the site along with his vehicle.

He said the passers-by helped him take the injured to the Kalka community health centre, from where Meena was referred to the PGI, where the doctors declared her dead.

The police had registered the case under Sections 279, 304A and 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
