Patiala, July 12

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested an Assistant Food Security Officer (AFSO) while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. 

The accused, identified as Jiwan Kumar, was arrested near Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib while accepting the bribe from Jagwinder Singh of Bhanri village near Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib. The accused was posted at Sanur. 

Giving details, officials said the complainant approached the VB and alleged that the accused was demanding Rs 25,000 for completing the requirements to issue a license for a government food supply depot. However, the deal was finalised for Rs 20,000. 

After verifying his complaint, a VB team laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed by VB Inspector Pritpal Singh. The bribe amount was recovered from the accused in the presence of witnesses. 

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station.
