Ambala: A major tragedy was averted on Sunday when a fire broke out at a house in Nadi Mohalla in Ambala City. No loss of life was reported in the fire incident. According to the information, there was a beauty parlour, garment store and sweater knitting unit on the ground floor while the owner of the house used to live on the first floor with his mother, wife and two children.Around 2 am, the family noticed fire on the ground floor and they managed to come out of the house. Fire brigade was called and it took around 40 minutes to douse the flames.House owner Deepak Sobti claimed that he sustained a loss of about Rs 8 lakh due to the fire as clothes and raw material were gutted. Besides, two-wheelers were also destroyed in the fire, he added. Short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the fire. TNS
Remand for murder accused
Ambala: The two accused, Charanjeet Singh and Iqbal Singh, in Israan murder, case were produced before a court on Sunday, which sent them to two-day police remand.A case was registered on the complaint of Bashir Ahmad against Charanjeet Singh, Iqbal Singh and Harnaik Singh in this connection.Sources said Charanjeet had opened fire in which Israan had sustained bullet and pellet injuries. The Station House Officer, Shahzadpur, Sub-Inspector Satbir Singh said, “The accused were produced before a court, which sent them to two-day police remand. Efforts are being made to nab the third accused.” Seeking arrest of the third accused, the kin of Israan held a protest and blocked a road by keeping his body for nearly an hour on Saturday. Charanjeet and Iqbal were arrested on Friday night by the police while the third accused, Harnaik, managed to flee. TNS
