Guard, caretaker booked as 2 inmates flee juvenile home

CHANDIGARH: A security guard and a caretaker at the Juvenile Justice Home, Sector 25, have been booked for negligence after two inmates escaped on April 15.

Chandigarh, April 16

A security guard and a caretaker at the Juvenile Justice Home, Sector 25, have been booked for negligence after two inmates escaped on April 15. While one of the juveniles was apprehended from Mani Majra, the other is still absconding.

The police said the juveniles, who were in the juvenile home in a theft case, had gone to drink water. However, taking advantage of construction going on at the home, the duo managed to escape after scaling a wall.

The police said Sham Lal, Superintendent, Observation-cum-Special Home, submitted a complaint against security guard Gurpreet Singh and caretaker Bhupender Singh, as they were on duty when the juveniles had escaped.

A case under Section 223 (escape from confinement or custody negligently suffered by public servant) of the IPC has been registered against the two employees at the Sector 11 police station. — TNS
