Chandigarh: The UT Sports Department will conduct trials to select local teams for the All-India Invitational Handball Tournament on December 6 at the handball courts of the Sector 42 Sports Complex here.



Chandigarh: The UT Sports Department will conduct trials to select local teams for the All-India Invitational Handball Tournament on December 6 at the handball courts of the Sector 42 Sports Complex here. The trials will begin at 5 pm, the organisers said here on Tuesday. The national meet is scheduled to be held here from December 26-31. TNS

Gymnastics meet from Dec 6

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Gymnastic Association will organise the State Sub-Junior Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship from December 6-8 at the Sector 7 Sports Complex here. Gymnasts born in the year 2010 will be eligible to participate in the U-8 category, while those born in 2008 can compete in the U-10 category. Gymnasts born in the year 2006 will be allowed to participate in the U-12 category, while those born in the year 2004 will be eligible for the U-14 category. The interested gymnasts can confirm their participation at the tournament venue. TNS

Panjab University shuttlers emerge champions

Chandigarh: Panjab University shuttlers beat hosts SRM University, Chennai, 3-1 to win the All-India Inter-University Badminton Championship. Panjab University took the initial lead with Anant Shivam Jindal beating Sayam SRM’s Bothra 21-23 21-14 23-21 in the opening match. Hardik Makkar then came from behind to Manigandan in a closely contested match to put Panjab University 2-0 ahead. Makkar lost the opening game 18-21, but came back strongly to win the next two games 21-17 23-21. The hosts reduced the deficit as Vembarasan and Senthil Vel beat Makkar and Anant Shivam 21-15 17-21 13-21 in the doubles competition, but Lalit Dahiya humbled Harivighnesh 21-12 26-24 in the next match to ensure a 3-1 win for Panjab University.
