Chandigarh, August 11
The UT Health Department has written to city SDMs, urging legal action against those running bakeries and other eateries in residential areas.
The letter was written after bakeries were raided in Hallo Majra twice in the past a few days. Officials said though they had challaned owners of three such shops for preparing food items in an unhygienic condition, legal action should be taken by the SDMs concerned against them for operating eating joints in residential areas.
“We have written to the city SDMs and the pollution control board, recommending action against them,” said a Health Department official.
There are a number of such shops functioning in Dhanas, Maloya, Mani Majra and Burail. “They are using sub-standard products. This poses a danger to the health of people. Our purpose is to keep a check on such people,” added the official. — TNS
