Panchkula, October 17

The BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Mathura and veteran Bollywood actress, Hema Malini, will seek votes for her party’s candidate from Panchkula Gian Chand Gupta on Saturday. She will be addressing a public meeting at 1:30 pm at the parking lot of the Sector 16 market.

Gupta challenges Congress candidate

The BJP nominee, Gian Chand Gupta, during his campaign trial on Thursday, challenged his main rival from Congress Chander Mohan to show what he had for the city during his tenure as an MLA. “Chander Mohan doesn’t have anything to present before the public with regards to development works when he was legislator,” he said.

“We, on other hand, carried out 125 development works of Rs 2,000 crore. Our report card is in the public domain,” said the 71-year-old BJP leader.

“The four-time MLA raised just a single question during his 18-year tenure, compared to 40 of mine in the last five years,” he added. He even accused Chander Mohan of halting development of Panchkula as he couldn’t take up issues in Vidhan Sabha.

Focus remains on villages

BJP candidate Gian Chand Gupta today continued his campaigning at villages of the Panchkula constituency. He claimed that voters in various villagers had assured him of voting for the BJP on October 21. Gupta visited Asrewali, Beharwali, Jaswantgarh, Alipur Town, Alipur, Jaloli, Sultanpur, Rehar, Village Barwala, Khangeshra, Toka, Sukhdarshanpur, Khatoli, Batwal and Ramgarh villages.

“When the Congress and the INLD were in power, they did nothing for the development of constituency. Issues and demands of villagers were neglected. Both these parties had just befooled people time and again,” said Gupta.

Asrewali village sarpanch joins BJP

In Asrewali village, sarpanch Mushtaq Mohammed along with his supporters joined the BJP on Thursday. In villages, including Sultanpur and Jaloli, workers from both the Congress and the INLD switched over to the BJP.
