Taking cognizance of a report regarding the supply of unhygienic drinking water from Kaushalya Dam to Panchkula published in a daily about three years ago, Justice SK Mittal, Chairperson of the Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) and Justice KC Puri has directed the authorities concerned to take corrective measures to sort out the grievances of the residents.

Though the residents had been complaining about the water supply for the past eight years, the administration, irrigation health and horticulture department had turned a blind eye to their grievances.

In its report filed to the commission, the Horticulture Department said they had allotted land to the Public Health Department for installing intermediate pumping station (IPS). Moreover, officials of the Public Health Department said IPS would be installed in two months at Rs 5 lakh.

It is pertinent to mention here that the commission, while taking cognizance of the report, had sent notices to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department to file the report. DC Mukul Kumar had then written to the commission that the issue was related to the Public Health Department and the Horticulture Department.

He had asked the officials of the two departments to appear before the commission and initiate steps to resolve the issue at the earliest.
