High blood pressure lifestyle disease: Docs

The Health Department celebrated World Hypertension Day-2019 under a theme “Know your numbers” at Mata Kaushalya Hospital today.  

A screeing camp was inaugurated by the Civil Surgeon and Medical Superintendent Dr Renu Aggarwal. 

The officials said the day was celebrated on the directions of Director Health and Family Welfare, Punjab. Blood pressure of all the patients aged 30 years and above along with their attendants was monitored. 

Dr Manjit Singh said the World Hypertension Day was celebrated at the district hospital, sub-district hospitals and community health centres.

He made people aware that high blood pressure was very common and can lead to heart failure, kidney disease and also effects eyes which can lead 

to blindness. 

Dr Renu said high blood pressure was lifestyle disease. She said by modification in eating habits, including restricting salt intake, fat intake, high intake of fruits, vegetables and no consumption of alcohol, high blood pressure can be controlled.
