Chandigarh: A Himachal Pradesh native has been arrested by the local police with charas. According to the police, a team of the IT Park police station nabbed Surinder Kumar, a resident of Dawah village in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, with 250 gm of charas.

SP gets another extension

Chandigarh: UT Superintendent of Police (SP) Roshan Lal has been given another extension of one year. Roshan Lal is already on one-year extension till December 2019. Man held under gambling act

Chandigarh: The crime branch of the UT police has arrested a person for alluring people for gambling after promising them higher profits. The police have recovered Rs 11,300 from the suspect identified as Swaraj Kumar, alias Rinku, (32), a resident of New Indira Colony, Mani Majra. The police said he was nabbed from near the Sashtri Nagar light point while alluring people to play gambling to get their money doubled. The police have registered a case against him at the IT Park police station. They said the suspect was earlier booked in at least nine cases of the Excise and Gambling Act. TNS

Mobile thief in police net

Zirakpur: The police have arrested a person for allegedly involved in stealing mobile phones. The suspect has been identified as Satnam Singh, a resident of Moga. The investigation officer said the suspect used to steal mobile phones and sell these. He said further investigations were on and more recoveries were likely to be made from him. Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Zirakpur police station. OC

P’kula native held with illicit liquor

Zirakpur: The police have arrested a person and recovered illicit liquor from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Sachin, a resident of Panchkula. The police had laid a naka near Gazipur road when the suspect, who was coming towards the Dhakoli side, was signalled to stop for checking. During checking, the police recovered 21 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.  Meanwhile, a case under the Excise Act has been registered against the suspect. OC

Man held for seeking dowry

Ambala: The police have arrested Ganesh of Parav near here for dowry cruelty and harassment of his wife, officials said here on Wednesday. According to the police, the victim reported to the women police station that her husband and in-laws were subjecting her to cruelty and harassing her for bringing inadequate dowry ever since she was married in December last. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody while other accused in the case were still on the run. TNS

Woman robbed of gold chain

Kharar: Three women allegedly robbed a woman of her gold chain on Kharar-Landran Road on Tuesday. Victim Sunita Rani, a resident of Guru Nanak Enclave, said she had boarded an auto-rickshaw from Bhuru Chowk, Kharar, and three women were already sitting in the vehicle. Rani said when the auto-rickshaw reached near Arya College Road, she began to feel unconscious and she asked the driver to drop her on the spot. Rani said when she became conscious, she noticed that her gold chain was missing. OC

JCB, poclain machine seized

Kharar: SDM Himanshu Jain ordered confiscation of a JCB machine involved in illegal mining in Machali Kalan village. The SDM inspected the village on Wednesday. On seeing Jain, the JCB operator fled from the spot. The SDM ordered the cops to seize the JCB machine. Similarly, a complaint was also received Rakoli village and a poclain machine was impounded.
