I have right to ask people to vote for me: Bansal

CHANDIGARH: Replying to the allegations of the BJP in its complaint to the Election Commission that Madhu Bansal, wife of Pawan Kumar Bansal, visited a football academy here on May 17 and asked students to vote for the Congress, Pawan Kumar Bansal has replied to the EC that there is no poll code violation in this.

Chandigarh, May 18

Replying to the allegations of the BJP in its complaint to the Election Commission that Madhu Bansal, wife of Pawan Kumar Bansal, visited a football academy here on May 17 and asked students to vote for the Congress, Pawan Bansal has replied to the EC that there is no poll code violation in this.

It is his constitutional right to ask people to vote for him, even if they are first-time voters. The election cell of the BJP had filed a complaint alleging that on May 17, Madhu Bansal was campaigning in the football academy in Sector 27 where she was addressing players, including some new voters and a few minor children.

The Congress, in its reply, has stated that the show-cause notice issued thereupon does not stand the scrutiny of law and should be dropped.

City residents upset with BJP misrule, says Bassi

Senior Congress leader from the city Mukesh Bassi said the party was confident of its victory in the Lok Sabha elections. He said people of Chandigarh had realised that nothing had been done in the past five years. Now, they want a local person to represent the constituency.  —TNS
