Income tax officials, who conducted raid on a shop of a caterer and recovered Rs 1.2-crore undisclosed income, say such raids are being carried out as several caterers and shopkeepers are not paying taxes.

Income tax sleuths on Wednesday reached and raided a famous chatwala in the city and recovered Rs 1.20-crore undisclosed income. The Rinku Chat World is known to have invested in various real estate deals and also runs a catering business.

Recently, income tax officials had also raided a pakoda seller in Ludhiana and recovered Rs 60-lakh undisclosed income.

An official requesting anonymity said: “The owner of the chat shop had not filed IT returns for years. Our officials have been conducting checks and surveys at shops and eateries that are doing good business, but have not paid the tax. We traced the footfall at his shop and raided his Focal Point shop also.”

Officials say they also raided his offices on Sirhind road. “He is a caterer and is known to be doing good business,” said the official. The officials said a number of eateries have been making huge money, but have not paid taxes.
