CHANDIGARH: The owner of Ind Swift, Nav Rattan Munjal, who was arrested for tax evasion on December 3, was produced in court today and sent to judicial custody.

The owner of Ind Swift, Nav Rattan Munjal, who was arrested for tax evasion on December 3, was produced in court today and sent to judicial custody.

The police had said the forged assessment order depicted the liability of the firm to be Rs 11,000 whereas the dues were Rs 5.09 crore. The police said the suspect was well aware that the demand notice of VAT to the tune of Rs 5.09 crore could not be settled for mere Rs 11,000 and knowingly used forged VAT assessment orders to cheat the UT taxation department. The police said the liasoning agent, Ankit Aggarwal, who, in allurement of money, had procured forged VAT assessment orders dated March 31, 2015, with the involvement of taxation officials was yet to be arrested. — TNS
