Mohali, April 17

The Mohali police have initiated a departmental inquiry against the suspended SHO of the Sohana police station for sending junior cop to investigate the rape case.

According to information, suspended SHO Daljeet Singh allegedly did not take any action after receiving a complaint of a 22-year old woman being raped in a car in broad daylight in Sohana on Monday. He also did not inform his senior officers about the incident, which they came to know about on Tuesday.

The woman, in her complaint to the police, said she was working in a call centre and was going to her work place when a car stopped near her. The driver told her that he was going in the same direction and offered her a lift. The woman said she believed him and sat in the car. The driver allegedly raped her in the car after threatening to kill her and later sped away after dumping her in Mohali.

The woman said she somehow managed to reach the Sohana police station and narrated the incident to Inspector Daljeet Singh. She said the police official neither registered an FIR not took any action.

SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar said they had initiated a department inquiry to be carried out by the Superintendent of Police (Detective). He said the SHO was found guilty of sending a constable to the crime scene instead of personally visiting the site. He said the SHO had also not informed the senior officers about the case on the same day.

Bhullar said they had registered a case under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC against the unidentified car driver at the Sohana police station and started investigations.

He said they were trying to get the CCTV footage of the crime scene and the site from where the woman boarded the car. He said they would soon nab the accused.
