It’s a tsunami, says Kirron

After getting re-elected as an MP for a second term, celebrity-turned-politician Kirron Kher said it was not just a Modi wave, but a tsunami which had swept across the country. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune correspondent Sandeep Rana, she said it was a vote for Modi and as well as for her. Excerpts

Who do you give credit for your win?

All party leaders and workers who worked very hard at the booth level. For the past five years, Sahdev Salaria, who is in his mid-twenties, stood by me like a rock, I would like to thank him.

Opposition is raising the EVM issue. Your take?

When they won in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the EVMs were fine. Now, they will say the EVMs in Amethi (where Rahul Gandhi conceded defeat) were out of order, but these will be fine in Wayanad (where he won). It is just that “khisiyani billi khamba noche.”

How has the Modi wave helped you?

As I said earlier, no other factor will work in the poll. There is a huge mandate for Modi. It is not just a Modi wave, but a tsunami, which swept across the country.

There was a malicious campaign against you by Bansal. Your take?

After seeing the votes, he has got his answer.

Should we expect to see the two-time MP in the ministry now?

I have not expressed any such desire. Let’s see.

What do you intend to do in the next five years?

This I will reveal in our vision document.

Respect people’s verdict: Bansal

Kher has won and I would like to congratulate her. Disappointment is part of the elections. I was expecting a good victory as the response from the people was enormous. Ultimately you must respect the will of the people. — Pawan Bansal, Cong candidate

Dhawan differs, says It’s EVM tsunami

The results are unimaginable as the response I got from people while campaigning gave an altogether  different picture. At one booth in Maloya, I got only five votes despite the fact that the families of 15-odd  Aam Aadmi Party workers live there. It seems this election is all about EVM tsunami. — Harmohan Dhawan, AAP candidate
