Chandigarh, February 18

In a bid to make Kashmiris residing in Chandigarh feel safe in the city, the UT police held meetings with delegations of people hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.

The meetings were held following reports of a few people in different parts of the region harassing Kashmiri residents after the attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama.

The UT police top brass, including DGP Sanjay Beniwal, DIG OP Mishra and SSP (Security) Shashank Anand held a meeting with a delegation of persons belonging to Jammu and Kashmir who are residing in Chandigarh to reassure them about their safety and security in the city.

A one-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the martyrs of the recent Pulwama terror attack by all those present at the meeting.

The DSPs concerned and SHOs of 16 police stations were directed to hold similar confidence-building meetings in their area. “We appeal to all to maintain peace and harmony. Under no circumstances shall anyone be allowed to disturb public order and peace,” said a police official.

Police officials said they were committed to ensuring the security and safety of all citizens of the country residing in or moving through Chandigarh.
