Karan adjudged best speaker

CHANDIGARH: A team of the Punjab Engineering College (PEC) bagged the winning trophy with a cash prize of Rs20,000 and runners-up trophy with a cash prize of Rs15,000 in the first GK Chatrath Memorial Annual Parliamentary Debate Competition that concluded here on Saturday.

A team of the Punjab Engineering College (PEC) bagged the winning trophy with a cash prize of Rs20,000 and runners-up trophy with a cash prize of Rs15,000 in the first GK Chatrath Memorial Annual Parliamentary Debate Competition that concluded here on Saturday.

The winning team comprised Simar Ahluwalia, Piyush Sharma and Karan. The runners-up team included Shivam Burghate, Akshat Kasana and Kanishk Taneja.

Karan Mahajan from PEC was adjudged the best speaker and Sparsh Garg from PEC was adjudged the best adjudicator. Both were rewarded with trophies and a cash prize of Rs10,000 each.

Shivam Burghate from Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, was adjudged the second best speaker, while Paramveer Chahal from the Army Institute of Law, Mohali, and Tanya Chaudhary from UPES, Dehradun, were adjudged the second best adjudicator. They were rewarded with trophies and a cash prize of Rs5,000 each. The competition was held between 30 teams from 18 educational institutions from across the country.

Chief guest Justice Jaswant Singh and guest of honour Prof Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instruction, PU, congratulated the winners.

Anu Chatrath and Prof Rattan Singh, Director of the UILS, PU, rendered their support to the legal aid society of the UILS, PU, in organising the event.
