Katoch Shield: City boys take on Gurdaspur today

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh will face Gurdaspur in their opening match of the Punjab State Inter-District Senior Tournament for Katoch Shield Trophy at the Sector 16 stadium here on Tuesday.

Chandigarh will face Gurdaspur in their opening match of the Punjab State Inter-District Senior Tournament for Katoch Shield Trophy at the Sector 16 stadium here on Tuesday.

A total of 21 teams from across Punjab will compete in the championship. 

The teams have been divided into four groups. The Group A consists of Amritsar, Bathinda, Sangrur, Mansa, Fatehgarh Sahib and Ropar, while Group B comprises Chandigarh, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Muktsar Sahib and Nawanshahr.

Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Barnala and Moga form Group C and Group D consists of Patiala, Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Faridkot and Fazilka. 

The top-two teams from each group will qualify for the super league, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) said here on Monday. The super league stage will start from June 6. 

Meanwhile, Amritsar will host Bathinda at Gandhi Grounds on Tuesday, while Mansa will play their first home match against Fatehgarh Sahib. Ropar will host Sangrur and Kapurthala will lock horns with Nawanshahr.

Jalandhar will start their campaign against Ludhiana at the Burlton Park. Ferozepur will host Moga, while Patiala will square off Mohali at Dhruv Pandove Stadium. Hoshiarpur will battle Fazilka.

The first day’s play will be restricted to 95 overs, the association said, adding that the matches will be supervised by the PCA panel umpires and scorers.
