Man arrested for raping 4-year-old

Chandigarh, July 14

A 45-year-old man has been arrested for raping a four-year-old girl while she was playing outside her house.

The accused, Dharmender, hailing from Bihar, has been booked under Sections 376AB (punishment for rape on woman under 12 years of age), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC and Sections 6 and 18, POCSO Act. The accused was produced in the court which sent him to one-day police remand.

As per information, the victim was playing outside her house around 12:30 pm on Saturday when Dharmender saw her alone and dragged her towards a secluded area. As per complaint, she was beaten up by the accused as well. The girl started crying loudly following which people gathered there.

The people thus caught hold of the accused and called the police. The police also managed to get a CCTV footage which showed the girl being dragged by the arm by the accused. As per the police, the accused is a heavy drinker.

However, the police are not sure whether the accused raped the girl or if it was an attempt to rape. Ranjhodh Singh, SHO, Sector 36 police station, said: “We have booked the accused for rape but it will be clear after the medical reports”.
