KHARAR: A man was found dead in a paddy field near a railway track on Randhawa Road, Kharar, on Tuesday.



Kharar: A man was found dead in a paddy field near a railway track  on Randhawa Road, Kharar, on Tuesday. Rajesh Tangri, an NRI, had got information about the body from some labourers engaged in the construction of a house. The body was sent for a post-mortem to the Civil Hospital, Kharar. ASI Manohar Lal, in-charge of the railway police post, Kharar, said they had recovered a whistle from one of his pockets, indicating that he might be working as a security guard. He ruled out any foul play and said the victim might have been hit by a train. OC

Assault: 5 booked  

Dera Bassi: Acting on the complaint of Sharik Khan, a resident of Amlala, Dera Bassi, the police on Tuesday booked five persons on assault charge. He told the police that on Monday night, Imran, who also resides at Amlala village, along with his four accomplices, attacked him with sharp objects. He told the police that when his neighbour tried to intervene, the accused assaulted him and fled. OC

Fraud: Case against two

Kharar: The police have registered a case  of fraud against Kunal Kapoor and Pradeep, owners of an immigration firm in Desu Majra. They allegedly cheated a number of people on the pretext of arranging visas for them. Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Kaithal, told the police that they had paid them Rs 1.80 lakh each. They were given fake tickets and visas, about which they came to know at the Delhi airport. OC

Fire at Sector 22 shop

Chandigarh: A fire broke out at an apparel showroom in Sector 22-D here on Monday. The incident took place at 10.45 pm at Shiv Garments. Short circuit is believed to be the cause of fire. Two fire tenders were pressed into service, which controlled the fire in 15-20 minutes. Though no loss of life was reported, an air- conditioner, an LED and clothes were destroyed. TNS

Army man found dead

Ambala: An Army man was found dead under mysterious circumstances outside Sainik Vishram Greh in Ambala Cantonment late this evening. As per information, a movement order has been recovered and on the basis of the document, the deceased has been identified as Naik Narender Kumar. He was reportedly posted with 12 Garhwal Rifles.  Officials from Lal Kurti Police Post and Military Police reached the spot and started the investigation. The reason for his death was still unknown and the body was sent to Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment. The police were trying to establish contact with his unit and family. TNS
