CHANDIGARH:Manan Vohra came up with a brilliant 150-run innings to take Chandigarh to a comfortable position against Kapurthala in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Championship for Katoch Shield at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today.

Manan Vohra came up with a brilliant 150-run innings to take Chandigarh to a comfortable position against Kapurthala in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Championship for Katoch Shield at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, the city team finished at 278/3 after Day 1. Due to rain, the start was delayed by almost four hours. Openers Vohra and Shivam Bhambri raised a 55-run partnership. Sameer Khan accounted for Bhambri (11).

Arjit Singh joined Vohra and the duo made a 180-run partnership to take the total to 230.

Arjit was claimed by Jaspreet after scoring 76 off 94 balls, with eight boundaries. Soon after, Vohra also returned to the pavilion. He scored 150 off 153 balls, including 18 boundaries and five sixes, before being caught by Karanpreet off Jaspreet.

Talwinder (18) and Gourav Puri (15) remained unbeaten for the local side. Jaspreet (2/40) and Khan (1/77) claimed the wickets for the bowling side.

Vinay, Rohit shine with ball

Vinay Choudhary and Rohit Gulati claimed four wickets each to help hosts Amritsar gain a commanding position against Ropar. Batting first, Ropar lads bundled out at 156 runs. Choudhary (4/34) and Gulati (4/36) shared maximum wickets. In reply, Amritsar openers made a solid start to close the day at 253 without losing any wickets. Abhishek Sharma posted an unbeaten 147 off 113 balls, while Rohan Marwaha closed the opening day unbeaten 102 off 103 balls, with 15 boundaries. —TNS
