PANCHKULA:Top seed Manush Shah of Gujarat beat PSPB Academy’s Anukram Jain 4-2 to win the boys’ junior title on the penultimate day of the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship at Tai Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3.

Top seed Manush Shah of Gujarat beat PSPB Academy’s Anukram Jain 4-2 to win the boys’ junior title on the penultimate day of the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship at Tai Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3. Shah was made to toil against second seed Anukram who after trailing 0-2 fought well to restore parity. But the bespectacled Gujarat player played a fast-paced game to grab the title.

In the semifinals, Shah beat Raegan Albuquerque to win in straight sets while Anukram downed Payas Jain after dropping two games. Except for the fourth game, where Raegan resisted a bit, it was the Gujarat boy who showed authority.

Second seed Swastika Ghosh overpowered Manushree Patil 4-2 to win the girls’ junior title. Ghosh was leading 2-1, but Patil returned to level the score in the fourth game. Ghosh managed to claim her second national ranking title in the category. In the semifinals, Patil and Ghosh managed to put it across their rivals. Fifth seed Patil beat Radhapriya Goel of Uttar Pradesh 4-0, but Ghosh was stretched fully by Diya Chitale before the former won 4-3.

Snehit in quarterfinals 

After stunning top seed A Sharath Kamal, Snehit progressed to the quarterfinals on Monday. He defeated Delhi’s Parth Virmani 11-6 11-6 11-9 12-10 to take on Sanish Amebekar of Maharashtra in the next match. Sanish beat Haryana’s Sourav Saha after coming from one game down 8-11 11-6 11-8 11-9 8-11 11-9.

Fourth seed Arjun Ghosh blanked Jeet Chandraa of West Bengal 4-0, while Sudhanshu Grover of PSPB overcame a fighting Sushmit Sriram of Tamil Nadu. 

The PSPB paddler won 11-7 11-7 7-11 12-14 8-11 11-5 11-5. Third seed Manav Thakkar faced a tough resistance from veteran Anirban Nandi of Railways. 

The PSPB lad logged 11-7 11-6 10-12 11-9 9-11 3-11 11-7 win over Nandi. He will be facing Anirban Ghosh, who defeated Sourgata Sarkar of LIC 4-1. Second seed Anthony Amalraj beat Subash Mani of Tamil Nadu 12-10 15-17 10-12 11-6 11-6 11-7.

Shamini Kumaresan strikes well 

In the women singles category, Shamini surprised many with her determination. She entered the quarterfinals by defeating Mallika Bhandarkar 7-11 11-7 12-14 11-7 11-5 11-3. Krittwika Sinha Roy registered an major upset by defeating top-seed Suthirta Mukherjee 7-11 11-8 12-10 6-11 11-8 6-11 11-9. Archana Kamath progressed to the quarters with a 4-1 victory over fifth seed Divya Deshpande, while Pooja Sahasrabuddhe downed Shruti Amrute of Maharashtra

Third seed Madhurika Patkar beat qualifier Pooja Sharma 4-2 , while sixth seed Ayhika Mukherjee packed national champion Mouma Das 11-9 11-9 8-11 4-11 11-8 8-11 11-8. Second seed Manika Batra survived a scare from Swetha Kumaravel of IA&AD before she won 11-5 11-9 9-11 11-8 5-11 12-10. Manika will meet Sagarika Mukherjee in the quarterfinals.  Mukherjee defeated Anika Das of PSPB 3-11 12-10 10-12 11-7 11-9 10-12 11-8.

Junior Girls: Final: Swastika Ghosh (Mah) bt Manushree Patil (Mah) 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 11-4, 11-7; Semi-finals: Manushree Patil bt Radhapriya Goel (UP) 11-8, 11-4, 12-10, 11-7; Swastika Ghosh bt Diya Chitale (Mah_ 11-5, 11-9, 10-12, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-8.
