Patiala, October 20

In memory of police personnel, who laid down their lives while discharging their duties, a marathon was organised by the local police here today. The marathon was organised ahead of Police Commemoration Day on Monday. The marathon was flagged off by Patiala Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu. The marathon started at 5.45 am from the Police Lines and passed through 22 Number Phatak, Leela Bhawan and Thapar University before culminating at the Police Lines.

On the occasion, the SSP said community participation was a must. He said, “We have been successful in having community participation in policing over the past one year. Community participation inspires the police force to perform better.”

A two-minute silence was also observed to pay tributes to the martyrs. Sidhu said October 21 was observed as Police Commemoration Day every year to remember the martyrs for whom duty was more precious than their lives.

SP Palwinder Singh Cheema, an Arjuna awardee, also took part in the marathon.

On the occasion, SP (Headquarters) Navneet Singh Bains, SP (Investigation) Harmeet Singh Hundal, DSP Saurav Jindal, DSP Yogesh Sharma, DSP (Headquarters) Puneet Singh Chahal, DSP (Rural) Ajaypal Singh and a large number of residents and policemen were present.
