Mayors, deputy mayors of 95 northern cities invited

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has invited mayors and deputy mayors of 95 northern cities for the second conclave on climate change to be held from December 5 to 7 in Sector 19 here.

The first such conclave was held in the city in 2017. Councillor and former Mayor Asha Jaswal said Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta would be the chief guest for the event.

The Municipal Corporation has contacted mayors of different cities in Northern states, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

“We have written to mayors and deputy mayors of 95 cities. Let us see, how many of them confirm,” said Jaswal.

A plan to build an association of mayors of northern cities is also on the cards.

“There is already an association of all-India mayors. On this line, we are deliberating to form an association comprising the mayors of the northern region. Through it, we will be able to share various problems and solutions with them. We will also be able to implement the best practices adopted in a particular MC. We will ensure meetings from time to time,” she said.

The civic body is also planning to host a dinner for all visitors during their visit to the city.
