Chandigarh, August 10

Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav has asked departments of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to frame their standard operating procedure (SOP) for public works. The SOP will mention the documents required for various public works.

This will prevent civic body officials from asking for unnecessary documents. It may also help check corruption.

An MC official said the move would help bring transparency in the functioning of the civic body. He said in the absence of information regarding the procedure to be followed for various works, applicants depended on officials.

The fire and emergency services wing had become the first MC department that framed an SOP for the issue of the fire safety NOC. According to it, an application is required to be submitted to the Chief Fire Officer.

From there, the application is forwarded to the Station Fire Officer. Then the application is scruitinised and the Station Fire Officer inspects the site for which the NOC is sight. In the absence of discrepancy, the NOC is be issued. The process has to be completed within 30 days.
