MC invites women employees to share their grievances on Oct 23

CHANDIGARH:While many departments of the Chandigarh Administration are yet to wake up in view of the #MeToo revelation witnessed all over the nation.

While many departments of the Chandigarh Administration are yet to wake up in view of the #MeToo revelation witnessed all over the nation. There is also a need to set up internal committees to look into the complaints of the women employees.

The Women Empowerment Committee of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has taken initiative and decided to hold meetings with all women employees on October 23 to hear to their grievances.

Sources said Ravinder Kaur Gujral, Chairman of the Women Empowerment Committee, has invited all women employees of the civic body for an interactive session at the conference hall of the MC. This is the first time that a committee has invited all women employees for hearing their grievances. 

Sources said a large number of women employees are currently working in the Chandigarh MC. 

Gujral said woman employees can approach her at any time on her mobile number and the committee would consider and initiate all possible steps to redress their grievances. 

She said steps have been taken to ensure all women employees feel safe and the committee would also seek suggestions from them to improve the working condition.

Meanwhile, Ajay Jagga, advocate, in a letter to Parimal Rai, adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration, has requested for issuance of directions to ensure constitution of the internal complaint commitees in all departments of the UT.

He said under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, it is mandatory to have internal complaints committee in all departments of the administration apart from all other private work places in Chandigarh. He said in many departments, the ICC did not exist which was in violation of the Act.
