Chandigarh, July 12
Intensifying its drive against property tax defaulters, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has now issued a notice to the Chief Engineer of the UT Administration asking the official to pay property tax amounting to Rs 5 crore due for government buildings and offices.
Sources said the MC had asked the UT Administration to pay the tax before July 31. In case of failure to do so, action would be initiated as per the law.
The MC recently tightened the noose around defaulters and served attachment notices on them. They have been directed to deposit dues within 15 days from the date of receipt of this order. As per the notification, government buildings are also liable to pay tax in the form of service charge to the MC every year.
