Patiala, May 21

A day after a doctor of the Government Rajindra Hospital served a defamation notice of Rs 1 crore to the Medical Superintendent (MS), the Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA) extended their support to the MS.

During the executive body meeting the association said MS Rajan Singla, took the action in the public interest and to improve the functioning of the hospital.

It is pertinent to mention that on May 15, the MS had allegedly caught Dr Harshinder Kaur for referring patients to a private lab and submitted the report to the Director of Research and Medical Education (DRME).

The Association added that they had taken a serious note of the wild allegations by the doctor of rampant malpractice against the entire faculty.

Dr Harshinder had said to the media that unethical practice was rampant in the hospital and most of the doctors were involved in it and why was she alone framed by the MS.

Diwan Bhullar, general secretary, PSMDTA said, “We appreciate the Medical College and Hospital administration for the improvement in laboratory services. We condemn the statement given by the accused doctor. At the same time, we demand to ensure the prompt availability of reports in the emergency for which authority should depute more technical staff.”

Meanwhile, doctors also discussed the issue of generic and branded medicines in the PSMDTA meeting.
