The token-based entry system introduced at the Rock Garden has failed to take off. The authorities have removed the machines installed at the entry and exit points of the garden after a trial run.
The society responsible for the maintenance and development of the Rock Garden in Sector 1 had installed the machines under a trial run a few months ago. The new Metro-like system was introduced to manage the huge rush of visitors. But it was found that they could not handle a large number of visitors to the world-famous tourist place.
An officer of the electrical wing of the Engineering Department said they introduced the system under a trial run but it was found that it failed to serve the purpose.
He said they were looking for other options also. To manage the huge rush of visitors and to distribute tickets manually is a very challenging task for the Society for the Maintenance and Development of Rock Garden. Moreover, it takes a lot of time to manually issue tickets. While the Rock Garden usually receives around 4,000 visitors daily on an average, at weekends, the number doubles. He said they had again started issuing tickets manually. They were also considering starting online sale of tickets, he added.
Sumit, a visitor, said the society must start other option of issuing tickets, as there was always a huge rush at the ticket counters.
