Ambala, November 29

Four persons, including a minor boy, were killed after the car they were travelling in met with an accident on the National Highway here on Thursday midnight.

The deceased have been identified as Deepak Bansal (29), Anshul (19), Sanjay (17) and Arvind (30). While Arvind, Anshul and Sanjay belonged to Uttar Pradesh, Deepak hailed from Ludhiana.

Deepak used to handle the work of his uncle’s factory of cloth printing in Ludhiana while other victims used to work there. The factory got a tender from Dehradun. They left for Dehradun from Ludhiana around 9 pm on Thursday for the printing project. When they reached near the flyover near Central Jail, their car met with an accident.

The exact cause of the accident is still not clear. It is being suspected that the car was reportedly hit by a truck first. Later, it rammed into an intersection on the flyover near Ambala Central Jail and then the truck crushed the vehicle from the rear. At the same time, it is also being suspected that the car might have crashed into the intersection first and then it was reportedly hit by a truck from the rear.

The impact of the accident was so strong that the car was badly damaged. The police and emergency services personnel had to use cutters to retrieve the bodies. All occupants died on the spot.

While Arvind was married and had two minor children, the other three were unmarried. Deepak’s uncle Sudarshan Bansal said: “Our factory paints T-shirts and sweatshirts. Deepak used to work there as a controller. They had left for Dehradun for some work.”

The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Ambala City, for postmortem examination. The truck driver reportedly managed to flee from the spot leaving the vehicle behind.

Investigating Officer SI Satinder Kumar said: “The car was stuck under the truck. The truck was removed with the help of a crane. The bodies were stuck inside the car. Cutters were used to cut the mangled remains of the car to retrieve the bodies. The truck might have hit the car from the rear. Appropriate action will be taken against the truck driver.”

Surinder Kumar, SHO of the Baldev Nagar police station, said: “The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained as all victims have died and the suspect driver is at large. Efforts are being made to nab the driver. He can only tell what exactly happened there. A case has been registered and further investigations were on. The bodies have been handed over to the family members after the postmortem in the evening.”

A case has been registered against the truck driver at the Baldev Nagar police station.
