Mohali resident walks free in rash driving case

CHANDIGARH: A local court has acquitted a man in a case of rash driving.

Chandigarh, April 18

A local court has acquitted a man in a case of rash driving.

A case under Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 49 police station against Davinder Singh, a resident of Mohali.

Complainant Manoj Kumar stated that he was going on his motorcycle from Sector 55 to Sector 48. When he crossed the Sector 51/52 traffic lights, a white car came at a high speed and hit his motorcycle following which he fell down. Later, the police arrested the car driver.

Defence counsel argued that the suspect was falsely implicated in the case. He referred contradictions in the statements of prosecution witnesses.

The court held that the prosecution had failed to connect the suspect with the crime in the case and acquitted Davinder of the charge framed against him under Sections 279 and 338 of the IPC. — TNS
