Morni remains cut off from P’kula for four hours due to landslides

PANCHKULA: Due to torrential rains from Sunday night onwards, Morni remained cut off from the entire Panchkula due to landslides for about four hours on Monday.

Due to torrential rains from Sunday night onwards, Morni remained cut off from the entire Panchkula due to landslides for about four hours on Monday.

Morni-Badyal, Morni-Raipurrani, Morni-Chandimandir, Morni-Badisher and Morni-Thaman routes were blocked.

The Public Works Department of Haryana cleared the roads leading to Morni by afternoon. The area has been facing power cuts since Sunday, which has further disrupted water supply also.

Phool Singh Chandel, a resident of Morni, said he was going to Panchkula in his car. On the way, boulders started falling down and he had to return. In the afternoon, landslide again took place near Thana village, which blocked Morni-Panchkula road. However, it was cleared in a couple of hours.

12 goats die as shed collapses

Around 12 goats died at Thathar village of Morni after a shed, under which goats were kept, collapsed due to landslide. When Sugam Chand, owner of the shed, went to see the goats, he found them buried. He removed debris with the help of villagers and managed to save some goats. Several goats suffered injuries also.

Bridge caves in near gurdwara

On the National Highway 73, a bridge caved in following rains in front of Nada Sahib Gurdwara. Traffic on the road was halted for about 4 hours and vehicles were diverted till the repair work was not completed.

School bus gets stuck, children safe

A school bus got stuck as a road caved in Sector 28, Panchkula, on Monday morning. The bus was ferrying students to the school when the incident took place. The bus driver tried to bring out the vehicle from the damaged portion, but it slid into mud. The school children were brought out safely and taken in another bus.

Portion of bridge washed away at Chowki village

A part of the bridge connecting two parts of Chowki village in Panchkula was washed away due to rains on Sunday night. In the morning, about 25 houses were cut off from the rest of the villagers. Children couldn’t go to school. A ladder is being used to connect two parts of the village. Till Monday afternoon, no one from the District Administration had visited Chowki village. The bridge was constructed around one-and-half-year ago. MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal has ordered to restore the bridge, but the work couldn’t be started due to heavy flow of water.

Three buffaloes swept away

Water from the nearby rivulet also entered Madrasi Colony and Nada village. While it washed away personal belongings of shanties in Madrasi Colony, three buffaloes were swept away at Nada village. Lakhwinder Singh said his tenant had 5 buffaloes that were washed away, but they were able to save two while the three others died.
