Motorist dies in hit-&-run

A 25-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding on was reportedly hit by a car on the Ambala-Chandigarh stretch near the ITI intersection here yesterday night. The deceased have been identified as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Lalru.

According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday night when Sunil was going towards Dappar on his two-wheeler to drop his younger brother. When the duo reached near the ITI intersection here, a car, which was also going in the same direction, allegedly hit their motorcycle.

Sunil sustained injuries in the mishap. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, from where he was referred to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Doctor declared him brought dead at the hospital, said sources.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unidentified car driver at the Lalru police station.
