Murder bid: Bail plea of 2 suspects junked

CHANDIGARH: A local court has denied bail to two persons who were arrested on attempt to murder and other charges.

Chandigarh, April 17

A local court has denied bail to two persons who were arrested on attempt to murder and other charges.

Dismissing the application of Kala Singh Sandhu (39), a resident of Sector 38 West, Dadu Majra Colony, and Mohd Junaid Qureshi (23), a resident of New Govind Vihar, Baltana, the court observed that since co-accused in the case were still at large, bail to the accused would hamper the probe.

The case was registered at the Sector 3 police station on a complaint of Pritpal Singh, a resident of Raiya village in Amritsar district. The complainant had stated that on March 1 this year at 11.30 pm, he and his friends Manmeet Singh, Pardeep Singh and Harmandeep Singh had gone to Boom Box Cafe in Sector 9. While they were at the dance floor, Qureshi came there and started spilling a champagne on them. When they objected to it, Qureshi started abusing them. They approached the cafe owner but to no avail.

In the meantime, Qureshi called his other friends and one of them directed the complainant and his friends to move out of the cafe. Thereafter, 8-9 persons attacked them outside the cafe with baseball bats.

Pritpal sustained serious injuries and assuming him to be dead, the accused took away his gold chain. His friend Pardeep was also injured on being hit with a broken glass bottle. The accused kept on hitting them with sticks while they were lying on the ground making them unconscious.

Qureshi and Sandhu were arrested on March 6. — TNS
