Chandigarh: A day after the body of 22-year-old Dhanas resident was found in a park of Sector 15, the UT police are yet to make any headway in the case. The victim’s autopsy was conducted on Sunday. The victim, Sanjay Yadav, a resident of EWS Colony, Dhanas, worked as a delivery boy in Mohali. Police sources said a few suspects were being questioned. However, nothing concrete has been established. “We are scrutinising the call records of the victim to get leads,” the sources added. Meanwhile, the victim’s motorcycle has been recovered from Dhanas. TNS

4 held for drinking in public place 

Mohali: The police arrested four youngsters for consuming liquor in a public place on Saturday night. They have been identified as Ashish Kapoor and Rohit Bhardwaj, both from Lakhnaur village, Amandeep Singh and Nirmal Singh, both from Mohali. Inspector Manphul Singh, Balongi SHO, said the youths were consuming liquor along Airport Road. “They had kept eatables on the bonnet of their SUV and were making a noise while consuming liquor,” said the SHO. Sisters injured in road mishap

Dera Bassi: Two sisters sustained injuries when the Activa scooter they were riding on was reportedly hit by a car on the Ambala-Chandigarh stretch near Bhankarpur village here on Sunday.The injured sisters, Komal and Nisha, residents of Dera Bassi, were rushed to the Civil Hospital, here. Later, they were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, said sources. As per information, Komal, along with her sister Nisha, was going towards Chandigarh on their Activa. A car, which was also heading in the same direction, reportedly hit their Activa scooter from the rear near Bhankarpur village. After getting information about the mishap, the police have started investigations. OC

Woman hangs self 

Dera Bassi: A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented accommodation in Mubarikpur here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Asha. The victim, who belonged to Uttar Pradesh, was putting up in a rented accommodation at Mohr Tikri village near here. The police said the incident came to light when the family members found her hanging from a ceiling in her room. They immediately informed the police about the incident. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Bhinder Singh Khangura, in-charge at the Mubarikpur police post, said during preliminary investigations it has come to fore that the deceased was mentally upset due to her illness. Perturbed over it, she took the extreme step on Saturday. The body was handed over to the family members after conducting post-mortem examination. The deceased left behind her husband and two children, said the police. The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the case. TNS
