Nabha, July  13

Tall claims by the civic authorities has exposed the preparedness of the municipal committee in Nabha, as most of the areas were flooded with knee-deep water after half-an-hour showers in the early morning hour on Friday.

The town was turned into a flood-zone area as water entered the low lying College Road market, near the Patiala Gate. Inderjeet Singh Pappu, president of the College Road Market Association, said this was every year’s affair. They said the market was located in the low lying area and the MC officials had failed to initiate action so that there was not water logging in the area.

Open grounds have turned into ponds and the streets into rivulets. Main roads such as Railway Road, Hospital Road, Kotwali Road, Model Road and all roads extending from five gates of the town remained waterlogged. The situation has made the movement of vehicles very difficult. Residential areas such as Krishna Puri, Jattan Wala Bans, Kartarpura, Basantpura, Guru Nanak Pura, Pandusar, Hira Mahal and colonies around railway station  would remain unapproachable   if the rains continued for two to three days.
