Nishank downs Dhruv, Dhairya beats Lakshya

CHANDIGARH:Top seed Nishank Thakur registered a 4-0 5-4(4) win over Dhruv Aggarwal to enter the boys’ U-16 semifinals in the ongoing Roots-AITA Talent Series National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Thursday.

Top seed Nishank Thakur registered a 4-0 5-4(4) win over Dhruv Aggarwal to enter the boys’ U-16 semifinals in the ongoing Roots-AITA Talent Series National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Thursday.  

Second seed Dhairya Chadha rallied from a set down to beat Lakshya Gupta in the quarterfinals. Chadha lost the opening set 2-4 but came back strongly to win the next set 4-2. He then overcame Gupta 10-7 in the decider to stay in contention for the final.  

Navya downed Samrvir Sran 4-2 5-3, while Sahejpreet Singh overcame Rishi Dahiya to seal a spot in the last-four stage of the championship. Sahejpreet won the first set 4-2, but Dahiya restored the parity with a 4-0 win in the next set. Sahejpreet, though, kept his cool to seal the tie-breaker 10-5 to move into the semifinals. 

Jyotsana stuns Aditi

In the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals, Jyotsana Yadav stunned top seed Aditi Singh 5-3 4-1, while Riya Kaushik registered a 5-3 4-1 win over Mrinalini Sharma. Harleen Kaur drubbed Anusha Sharma 4-1 4-0. 

Second seed Radhika Vasudeva had an easy outing against Vanya Arora as she raced into the semifinals with a 4-2 4-1 victory.  

She also made it to the semifinals in the girls’ U-14 category after beating Yashika Sharma 4-0 4-1.  

Vanya Arora drubbed Khushi Sharma 4-0 4-2, while second seed Harleen Kaur registered an identical win over Anusha Sharma in the girls’ u-14 quarterfinals.

Sahejpreet in quarters 

In the boys’ U-14 category, top seed Sahejpreet Singh downed Parth Sharma 4-2 4-0 to advance into the quarterfinals. 

Parampratap Singh blanked Dhruv Pratap 4-0 4-0, while Shrayvir registered a 4-0 4-1 win over Kanwarpreet Singh. Shubham Singh humbled Yash Jindal 4-0 5-3. 

Devansh Verma edged Rattan Kabir 4-0 4-1 and Dhruv Aggarwal drubbed Harjot Singh 4-0 4-0. Aarush Sharma overcame Harwin Singh 5-4(2) 5-3, while second Lakshya Gupta (2) packed off Satvik Singla 4-1 4-1 to march into the last-eight satge of the championship.
