NSUI holds candle march against Hyderabad doc’s rape-murder

The National Students’ Union of India, Haryana, held a candle march to protest against the rape and murder of Hyderabad veterinarian Dr Priyanka Reddy, at Shalimar Chowk in Sector 5 here. 

Members of the Youth Congress offered condolences to the family and demanded that the culprits should be brought to justice.

Divyanshu Bhardwaj, president, NSUI, Haryana, said, “On the one hand, we as a society talk about women empowerment, while on the other, such horrific cases are being reported every day.” He also questioned the Centre’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme and its effectiveness. He further demanded that the government should take strict action against the accused.

The 26-year-old veterinary doctor, whose two-wheeler got punctured, was raped and later burnt alive on the outskirts of Hyderabad by four men, who offered to help her get the deflated tyre fixed.

Kamaljit Singh Panchhi of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal also held a candle light protest against the brutal rape and murder of Dr Priyanka.
