CHANDIGARH:‘Srijan’, the exclusive store of Burail jail in Sector 22 here, did a brisk business on the first day of its operation on Thursday.

‘Srijan’, the exclusive store of Burail jail in Sector 22 here, did a brisk business on the first day of its operation on Thursday. The store recorded sales of around Rs 17,000. Sweets made by jail inmates sold like hot cakes.

Jail officials informed that sweets and bakery products witnessed the maximum number of buyers on the first day.

Sweet dishes prepared at the kitchen inside the jail, including, ladoo, balushahi, gulab jamun etc, besides namkeen, sandwich and cakes are available at the store. 

Soon, special vegetarian thali, along with other products already available at the shopping-cum-visitor complex, Model Jail, Sector 51, would be made available at the Sector 22 store.

Jail officials said eatables made by inmates meet the food safety standards.

Among other products, a variety of wooden chairs, baby chairs, cabinets, wooden flag stands, insignias and candles are available at the store.
