On way to interview, girl dies in mishap

A diploma student of Dev Samaj College, Sector 36, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle was killed while a UT constable, who was riding the motorcycle, was injured when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding car on the road separating Sector 36 and 23 today.

According to the police, complainant Baljit Singh, a constable, reported that Mamta had an interview at the District Education Office in Sector 19. He picked up the victim and first they went to a temple in Sector 36 to pay obeisance after which they left for Sector 19. 

The police said when the duo reached the road separating Sector 36 and 23, a speeding car came from the rear side and hit the motorcycle. The constable and the college student fell on the road. The injured were rushed to the hospital, where Mamta was declared brought dead. 

The police booked the car driver, Baljinder Singh, under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the IPC at the Sector 36 police station. He was arrested and later released on bail. 

The police said the victim’s autopsy would be conducted at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, tomorrow.
