Even after 24 hours, the local police are still groping in the dark about the two gangsters who managed to give the slip to the UP police after a brief chase on Monday evening.

The police have registered a case against the two accused, Sunil Rana and Vicky. The UP police had already arrested the third accused Rohit involved in a murder case in a village falling under Barhapur in Bijnore district. According to sources, the UP police had arrested Rohit, who owned a flat in Jalwayu Vihar in Sector 20, while Vicky and Sunil Rana were staying in a rented accommodation in a flat in Sector 25 for the past one-and-a-half years. Vicky and Sunil had also purchased a Jaguar three days ago which was registered in joint name of the accused.

Inspector Sunil of UP in his complaint to the police said one person was killed, while two others were injured in a shootout.

The police suspected the two gangsters might have been injured after their car had hit the divider on the Sector 20-21 road and turned turtle. The two accused had managed to escape after being chased by the UP police. The two had also pushed a constable aside and a country-made pistol had also fallen on the road from one of the accused. The police also suspected that the three accused might be involved in other criminal cases as they had been living in the city for the past more than one year.

Additional SHO Sector 20 police station, Deepak Kumar, said raids were being conducted at the possible hideouts of the accused in the tricity.
