Pawan wins bronze medal

CHANDIGARH: Haryana’s Pawan Kumar clocked 4:30:49.00 to finish third in the 50 km competition at the sixth Open National Race Walking Championship in Chennai on Sunday.

Haryana’s Pawan Kumar clocked 4:30:49.00 to finish third in the 50 km competition at the sixth Open National Race Walking Championship in Chennai on Sunday.

Jitendra Singh Rathore (4:23:23.00) of Rajasthan finished on top, while Gujarat’s Sagar Joshi (4:24:21.00) occupied the second spot. Rathore’s winning time, however, was way off the World Championship qualification mark of 3:59:00.

In the 10km boys’ category, Suraj Panwar (43:19.00) of Uttarakhand won the first prize, followed by Haryana’s Junaid (43:32.00) and Ali Barman (44:50.00) of UP.

Rogi Patel (53:38.00) of Uttarakhand, MP’s Suvarna (55:36.00) and Gurpreet Kaur (57:00.00) of Punjab claimed the top-three positions respectively in the women’s competition. TNS/Agencies
