Mohali, July 14

It was the smartphone of Ritu Raj Singh, carjacking victim Navnit Kumar’s brother-in-law, which helped the Mohali police nab the accused.

Ritu Raj had kept his phone in the car when he and Navnit were looking for some eating joint. Meanwhile, the five miscreants robbed the car, taking it away without knowing that the phone was lying in it. As soon as the Mohali police came to know about the phone from the victims, they immediately put it on tracking.

“With the help of the phone, we kept a track of the carjackers. We found they were heading towards Ropar. The robbers noticed the phone midway and threw it out of the vehicle. Later, we confirmed their route through toll plazas. When we saw that they were heading towards Anandpur Sahib, we alerted our counterparts there and Nangal. Meanwhile, we decided to check Naina Devi area and spotted the car there,” said DSP Ramandeep Singh. —TNS
