Patiala, October 21

The city IGP, AS Rai, along with other officials today paid homage to police personnel, who died on duty, on the Police Commemoration Day. Officials were joined by Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit, District and Sessions Judge Sanjeev Berry on the occasion.

Meanwhile, officials from other departments, including the Municipal Corporation, failed to reach the venue. Families who lost their  sons, fathers and brothers while serving in the Police Department also reached the venue.

IGP Rai urged people to work against issues, including drugs, corruption and adulteration. During the militancy period in the state, Punjab Police and security forces knew, who they were fighting against, but today adulterated food was devastating lives of the people, who were consuming such eatables without any knowledge, the IGP said.

“We have started special family pension for the families of martyred police personnel. We will also give benefits to families of those, who were killed during the times of militancy in the state, with the help of red cards,” he added.

“October 21 is observed as a day to commemorate martyrs because Chinese forces attacked and killed 10 CRPF and Intelligence Bureau personnel in 1959,” he said.

All police and paramilitary personnel, who died on job in between September 1, 2017, to August 31, 2018, were remembered on the occasion.

Officials gave mementoes to families of martyred policemen.

Meanwhile officials also remembered martyrs of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services at Punjab Jail Training School. Superintendent, Patiala Central Jail-cum-Principal Punjab Jail Training School, Rajan Kapur, welcomed families of martyrs. He said the Prison Department was always there to support families of the martyrs.
