Polling material distributed among staff amid tight security

Pooja Siyal, SDM-cum-Returning Officer, on Saturday distributed polling material, including ballot papers, among the polling staff at Government College here.

The polling staff reached Government College around 9 am to get to know their booth numbers and other equipment needed on the D-Day. Mohali SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar, also visited Government College to inspect the entire process of distribution of material among the polling staff.

The SSP, along with other officers, minutely looked into all arrangements involving the election process. They asked the polling staff to make sure that people were able to exercise their franchise in a fair manner.

The SDM-cum-Returning Officer said ramps and wheel chairs had been provided in all polling stations for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities and senior citizens.

For the distribution of polling material and dispatch of polling staff, foolproof security and other arrangements were made by the district administration, she added. DSP Simranjit Singh said elaborate security arrangements had been made for the smooth and fair elections in the Dera Bassi block.

Police patrol on the job

• In the Dera Bassi block, as many as 2.58 lakh voters will exercise their franchise.
• 259 polling booths to remain open for voters from 7 am to 6 pm on Sunday. 
• Of the total voters, there are 1,36,038 male and 1,22,566 female voters.
• As many as 650 police personnel have been deployed for security. 
• Fourteen patrolling police teams have been formed to keep a vigil on 259 polling booths across the block. 
• Reserve parties have been constituted in case of any urgency.
