Chandigarh, August 11

Amit Prashar scored a quick-fire ton to guide Chandigarh to a convincing 260-run victory over Bathinda in their opening match of the Punjab Inter-District Championship for FC Mittal Trophy here on Saturday.

Playing at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, Prashar scored 126 runs off 110 balls to help the hosts score a mammoth 355/5 after opting bat.

Chandigarh had a decent start to their innings as Prashar and Manan Vohra added 48 runs for the first wicket. After Vohra was dismissed by Navkarn, Prashar joined hands with Uday Kaul and together they put on 87 runs for the second. The opener eventually fell to Arjun Singh.

Kaul made a patient 57, while Jaskaran Singh Sohi hammered a 44-ball 75 before being caught by Lovejeet off Navkaran.

Navkaran was the most effective bowler for Bathinda, claiming 2/60. Arjun Singh (1/64) and Taranpreet (1/68) took a wicket apiece.

Needing to score at just over seven runs per over for victory, Bathinda were bowled out for 95 runs in 25.3 overs. Arshdeep returned with figures of 5/14, while Arpit Singh claimed 4/23 for the hosts. Navkaran (22) was the top scorer for the side, while Mahavir contributed 19 runs to the chase.

Rain trouble

Hosts Ludhiana and Patiala were forced to share points after the match between the two sides was abandoned due to heavy rain.

Batting first, Patiala scored 252/7 in 50 overs, with Anmolpreet Singh hitting 119-ball 117. Wicketkeeper-batsman Anmol Malhotra made 40 runs.

For the hosts, Baltej Singh grabbed 3/60, while Sukhjinder picked 2/35.

Ludhiana, in reply, were 30/1 in 13.3 overs when the skies opened up. Both teams were awarded two points each.

Rain also played a spoilsport in the match between Mohali and Gurdaspur at Ropar. Batting first, Gurdaspur were batting on 159/4 in 36 overs when heavy rain suspended the play.

When the play resumed, Mohali were given a revised target of 145 runs in 20 overs. The side, however, faced just nine balls before the rain again stopped the play. Later, the match was abandoned and the two sides split the points.   The match between hosts Amritsar and Jalandhar was also abandoned midway due rain.
