Priyanka races to gold, silver for Rakhi

Chandigarh, October 17 

Priyanka of Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, clocked 22 minutes and 28.73 seconds to win the 5000m gold in the girls’ U-18 category in the ongoing open athletics meet, organised by the UT Sports Department at the Sector 7 Sports Complex, here. 

Her schoolmate Rakhi (24:46.47) claimed the second position, while Tanu of Government High School, Maloya, finished third with a timing of 27:43.32s.

Mehtab on top

Mehtab Kaur Sidhu of Delhi Public School, Sector 40, dominated the field in the girls’ 400m. She recorded a timing of 1:02.78s to claim the gold medal. 

Preeti (1:10.35) of Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, bagged the silver, while Damini (1:11.72) of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 32, took home the bronze medal. 

Ashita Rao of St Soldier International School, Sector 28, won the gold medal in the girls’ long jump competition with a leap of 4.70m. 

Kamlesh (4.03m) of Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School won the silver, while Amandeep Kaur (3.82m) of GMSSS, Sector 44, returned with the bronze medal. 

Khushi Rana (12.37m) of PML SD School, Sector 32, topped the podium in the shot put competition. She was followed by Harleen (11.30m) and Anmol (9.14m) in second and third positions, respectively.

Ashwani triumphs

In the boys’ 400m competition, Ashwani Kumar of Sri Guru Gobind Singh School, Sector 35, clocked 53.73 to win the gold medal. He was followed by Lovepreet Singh (55.12) of KVS, Sector 47, in second place, while Badal (55.34) of Government Model High School, Sector 43, bagged the third position. 

Dharminder of Government Model High School, Sector 7, dominated the field in the boys’ 5000m contest. He registered a timing of 18:33.53 to win the gold medal. 

Sahil (18.34.81) of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, won the silver, while Karan Kumar (18:55.01) of Sharda Sarvhitkari School, Sector 40, had to be content with the bronze medal.
